How to use the fade in & fade out
- Drop your song or recording on the box above, or tap to choose it.
- Set how many seconds the fade in and fade out should last. The preview updates right away.
- Press play to listen, switch to “Original” to compare, then tap “Apply fades & save” and download.
A fade makes a track start and end gently instead of cutting in or stopping abruptly. It is the quickest way to tidy a clip for a video, a podcast intro, a ringtone or a DJ set.
Frequently asked questions
How long should a fade be?
For songs, 2–5 seconds sounds natural. For a short clip or ringtone, 0.5–1 second is enough. For a slow ending, try 8–15 seconds.
Which fade shape should I pick?
Smooth (S-curve) sounds the most natural for music. Linear is even all the way. Fast start drops the volume quickly at first, which suits speech.
Can I fade only the start or only the end?
Yes. Set the other slider to 0 seconds.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Everything runs in your browser on your own device, so your audio never leaves it.
Is it free?
Yes. No sign-up, no watermark and no limits set by us. Very long files (over about an hour) may be too big for a phone’s memory.
